loose change...

let me share a project minime and I are working on!

earlier this month, minime & I attended our state homeschool expo. it's our 3rd year and it gets better every year! we stayed for 3 days, 2 nights and at the end of that third day, the last thing either of us wanted to do was make that long drive home. we wanted to stay at the hotel another day, play in the pool and get a good nights sleep - without getting involved in any "responsibilities". but we weren't financially prepared for that extra night - so home we went. but it got me to thinking - we need to start saving now for next year!

i figured out that we needed to save about $5 per week. do-able, but sometimes letting go of a $5 bill just isn't that easy. then brilliance overcame me! change! spare change!!

yes, we would save all of our coins.

so for the last 2 weeks or so - that's what we have been focusing on. we've cleaned up every spare coin - penny, nickel, dime, quarter - and put them into jars. then i purchased a variety of paper coin wrappers. and today i sat down and decided to wrap only quarters.

inside of 30 minutes, i'd managed to wrap $67. can you believe that?!!
$67 WORTH OF QUARTERS!!!!!!!
i can't wait to get into the dimes, nickels and pennies - oh, my!! THE PENNIES!!

there are others that have discovered (long ago, i imagine) this too, and i'm happy to share with you, their experiences:

ChangeRace
Soho Sally's Blog
The ChangePot

so that's our current mission. and it looks like we're on our way. our goal is to pay for, not just the extra night at the hotel at next year's conference ($88), but ALL 3 nights!

$67 down, $197 to go.

easy-peasy!

What a fabulously resourceful idea and great example for your little Minime! I love your photography too.
